I have loved Jeeps ever since I was about five and took my first ride in my grandfather’s Tuxedo Park. It has been a goal of mine ever since to purchase one, which I did last year when I got my driver’s license and turned 16. The jeep that I decided to buy was a 1953 M38A1, my absolute favorite model. I could not be happier with my decision. It needs a few things such as body work, brakes, and a blackout light but it runs incredibly and will go through anything. My plan with this Jeep is to keep it as stock as possible and eventually restore it. I got brakes for Christmas and plan to install them and register it as an antique auto this summer. What I love about the Willys Jeep is that regardless of their age or condition, you never fail to have fun in them and always turn plenty of heads while doing it.
Hi Patrick. I saw your photo on Kaiser Wills’ blog today. Your jeep looks great and I’m sure you will enjoy it. My dad purchased a ’53 M38A1 when I was10 years old. He and my older brother worked hard to bring that jeep back from it’s previous life as a farmer’s tractor!! lol That was in 1973. I not only learned to drive on that jeep but I drove it all through high school…being the envy of everybody! My dad died in 1997 and my brother-in-law ended up storing the jeep until a few years ago. Now I have it back and my son was able to drive it for a short time while he was in high school. I have recently rebuilt the engine and am currently, although slow at times, working towards new paint.
I too enjoyed “taking it through everything”. I did find a few instances that it would not. ha ha. Take care of that jeep and it will take care of you!
