I have a NEKAF that was brought here in the mid 80’s. My son and I have been working on it for about 8 years. We bought it from a friend who had it painted up like a US Jeep. When we got into it we saw the name tabs were in Dutch and the radiator had Holland embossed on it. We even installed the side lights as original. Now it’s painted like it was still in service. I worked with a guy who said it looks just as he remembered when he was a boy.
My son has been driving it even though there has always been grinding noise from the steering column and box. We finally decided to make the repairs and are concerned about which sector shaft is in it. From what I can determine it could be 7/8” or 15/16” diameter.
Right now we are trying to pull the steering wheel without damaging it.
We generally get parts from Kaiser but I thought I might research a backup source.
Any suggestions?

I am Henny Lechanteur and I live in the south of the Netherlands.
I own a Nekaf ( Netherlands Kaiser Factories ) M38A1 (Willys).
It’s a Fire – Amunutie Truck from 1959 who’s named: Spuitje.
It’s the only Jeep who has his Original motor in the Original chassis.
He also has an siren and turnilamps in the top.
He was statinated in the Netherlands Army in the MMO in Loon Op Zand.
MMO means Military Amunition Store.
As I worked from okt 1967 until okt 1968 with AFCENT, Nato headquarter at Brunssum in the Netherlands I met a lot of american military. I remember: MSGT Schaefer; TeccSGT Dusso; TeccSGT Youg and Brigid General Scott. The mostly on the road in a car with the words DC Washington on it.
The most military went in that time to Vietnam to Quang Tri and Danang.
