New Replacement Thermostat in 160 degrees – Part#: 812050
Q: I have a 1949 CJ-3A, early model. Got oil in my radiator. No water in my oil. Runs good and has good oil pressure. Just got it running after I bought it in Oct. 2011. Wondering if it’s a head gasket, water pump or what? I did flush the radiator and drove it again and again found oil about a quarter inch deep at the top of the radiator. Any ideas?
- A: Sounds like you have a bad head gasket. Please call us toll free. We are more than happy to help out.
Q: Will the 180 degree thermostat be ok to use in my CJ-3A, L4-134 engine….?
- A: Yes either the 180 or the 160 will work fine.
Q: Does this come with the replacement gasket? I don’t see one for the 226ci engine. If it doesn’t come with the gasket could I buy one from you guys?
- A: That gasket you have to make. Just some sealant will do the trick.
Q: I have a 1942 GPW. I installed this thermostat with the spring up like the book shows but it didn’t open and the engine gets hot. I drilled a couple of pilot holes in the flange but still gets pretty hot, any suggestions? The thermostat housing doesn’t have a recess to install it with the spring down in the block.
- A: I would double check to make sure you installed the retainer as well. I’ll have to double check on the orientation of the thermostat.
Q: What should be the standard operating temperature on my CJ-2A running a 160 degree thermostat? My temp gauge ranges from 180 to 190 degrees? Some forum circles say 190 degrees is not a problem as long as the coolant doesn’t boil over. My engine has been running fine and not overheating running between 180 and 190 degrees.
- A: If your running a 160 degree thermo it shouldn’t run any more than 180 degrees.
