Q: Does this kit include upgraded seals or is it all original? If it is original are upgraded better seals available?
- A: Yes, this is a better seal than original. It has the plates, felt and large rubber washer to make the seal.
Q: How is this installed?
- A: The rubber/metal seal has a section that is all rubber. Cut it and put it straight up. Slit the felt seal in the same location and install it straight up as well in line with the oil seal slit. Install the metal plates. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Just snug fit. If you over tighten you will cause gaps between the bolts allowing leaks. Also make sure you lightly sand and grease the ball surface the knuckle seal kits ride on for a good sealing surface. Also you can call if you have questions.
Q: I have the metal plates. Is it possible to buy just the seals?
- A: We only have this in a kit.
Q: What grit of sand paper would you suggest to clean up the ball surface of the knuckles? Also I see you have a kit to replace the king pin bearings, do you have a kit for the spindle bearings? Thanks for your time.
- A: I would use really fine. You really are just trying to remove any imperfections or high spots.
Q: Will this fit a 1971 Commando with a Dana 27 front?
- A: Yes that is correct.
Q: I bought the kit, on the two metal half shells, which direction does the “lip” face?
- A: Out
Q: What kind of lubrication is used inside the steering knuckle? 90W oil just runs out the bottom of the seal, and the service manual says to use “U-joint lubricant”, which is more like wheel bearing grease to me. But the manual clearly distinguishes that u joint lubricant should be used. So what is that, that it can be poured in through the filler hole?
- A: If your seal is good the 90 weight will hold. Alot of people just just axle grease or your local auto store also sells knuckle lube too.
