New Replacement Starter Drive Bendix – Part#: A17702
Q: Would this part be different if my starter was converted to 12 volt?
- A: It will work either way, it has nothing to do with the electrical. You probably still have a 6 volt starter. They work fine on either 6 or 12 volt. The field coils are heavy duty.
Q: How many teeth on the gear does this item have?
- A: 10 just like original.
Q: Do you ship international to Italy?
- A: Yes we ship daily international. Please email us your list with full shipping information to: mike@kaiserwillys.com and we can quote you out the rate.
Q: My starter just started whirring…. I tried tapping it with a hammer.. the West Virginia Farm Boy trick and it still won’t engage the flywheel. Will this part solve the problem? The motor was strong until today..
- A: It may be a broken spring. This should do the trick.
Q: WHEN I ENGAGE THE STARTER THE ENGINE WILL ROLLOVER A SECOND OR TWO THEN DISENGAGES. THE STARTER CONTINUES TO TURN BUT THE ENGINE DOESN’T, THE RING GEAR WAS REPLACED. WILL THIS FIX THE ISSUE?
- A: Sounds like it could be. I would check your teeth and if your starter motor is turning over slowly.
Q: I am having problems with the 6 Volt Starter Motor, the spring of which keeps breaking probably due to the 12 Volt Battery System. I am looking for SPRINGS for the Bendix drive for the 6 Volt Starter Motor.
- A: We only sell the complete bendix that has the spring.
Q: I have a 6 Volt Autolite Starter MZ 4113…..Will the above Starter Motor Bendix Drive fit/be compatible to my Starting Motor?
- A: Yes this is the correct one for it.
Q: I have a bendix that is operated mechanically (with a foot operated lever). I want to convert the starter to a solenoid operation. Will this bendix convert what I have?
- A: It really doesn’t work that way. They are not interchangeable. Please call me toll free. We can help out.
Q: I have 1966 Kaiser jeep CJ-5 with 4-134 F engine and worn out starter motor drive gear. Do all jeeps have the same size motor drive gear?
- A: No, you have to match the bendix to the starter motor numbers.
Q: My starter has MZ 4195 on it. It is 6V – off a 1947 Willy Jeep. It only has 9 teeth????
Will item # A17702 work??
- A: This is an unoriginal starter motor. Please call us toll free. We can ask you some questions and help you out.

Thank you for your reply , the only critical measurement is the 1/2 inch ( 12mm ) shaft size on the starter
Your Bendix drives are identical to the original providing the id bore will fit a 1/2 inch shaft , hopefully you have drives with that size inside bore
Regards , Don .

Will this work with an MZ 4014?

I have a 1942 willys MB and we have had the Bendix repaired due to a crack and a new fly wheel put in and for a while it worked but now it has broke again. (the starter turns but will not start the engine) would this fix it or do I need a whole new starter?
