New Replacement Ignition Coil in 12 Volt – Part#: 933160
Q: I have a 1946 Jeep Willy CJ-2A when I got it. It didn’t have a coil on it so I bought a 12 volt coil. But I don’t have spark should I buy a 6 volt coil and will that get me spark…?
- A: You need to see what voltage you are running in your jeep. I would check you battery, bulbs, voltage regulator etc… you can damage your electrical by mixing and matching voltage parts.
Q: I own a 1948 CJ-2A. I recently replaced the coil. Question: Which wire goes to the positive side of the coil, the red or yellow. I was told the yellow. I currently have the red (+) going from the positive side of the coil to the distributor and the yellow to the ignition switch. I was told this was wrong. Thanks for the assistance.
- A: It depends on what those wires go to in your harness. The ( – ) is the ground and the ( + ) is the power. Please call us toll free. I’m more than happy to help out.
Q: Will this coil work with your electronic ignition distributor?
- A: Yes this is the one we recommend.
Q: If the wires are switched around on the coil will it still fire and run?
- A: You need to make sure to have it wired correctly.
Q: Hi, I’ve got a question: I need an ignition coils for a kaiser CJ-5 “amphibian” form the year 1970. I think I need a 24 volt. Can you suggest to me which one is better?
- A: If you need a 24 volt coil try part number: #943742
Q: CAN THIS COIL BE USED FOR A SIX CYLINDER FLAT HEAD 230 ENGINE 12 VOLT SYSTEM?
- A: Yes it will be fine for it.
Q: My jeep has a 12V battery with a resistor in line with the coil….does this 12V coil eliminate the need for the in line resistor? Also, do you have plug and coil to dist. wire sets with contacts already attached and right angle boots on the plug ends???
- A: Yes this is an internal resistor coil. We have complete cable sets ready to go as well.

Hi Gary,
The terminal on the key switch marked “BATT” should go to the battery. The “IGN” terminal should go to the starter. The one in the middle or “GRD” is for the ground. The “ACC” terminal is not used unless they have some sort of accessory that needs power wired to it! Hope this helps! Have a great day!
I bought a 1946 Willys Jeep stock except 12 volt system. Was running great until someone stole my key switch from the dash. Left wires hanging down. Jeep is basic no stereo, radio. Bought a key switch has 4 post, Bat, Ing, Acc, in middle I guess Ground it’s not marked. How do I go about wiring key switch?
