New Instrument Panel Fuel Gauge – Part#: 640763-12V
Q: What is the diameter of this gauge?
- A: It is approx 2 1/4″ OD
Q: Do I have to have all new dash gauges to convert a 1949 Jeepster from 6 volt to 12 volt?
- A: I may be able to help for the Jeepster. Please call us toll free.
Q: Would the fuel gauge (12 volt ) for the 53-64 CJ-3B work with the sender for a 67 CJ-5?
- A: It should but I have a better option. Please call us toll free. We are more than happy to help out.
Q: What is the panel hole size for this gauge (gauge body diameter)?
- A: This is a 2″ gauge just like original.
Q: My old 6 volt gauge has 2 wires, this one is set up for 3. Where does the 3rd wire go?
- A: You have a positive post sender post and ground post. Your gauge will be marked.
Q: I maintain the ’46 CJ-2A as a 6 volt system (Using an 8 volt battery). How do I get a 6 volt fuel gauge?
- A: You want to order part number: 640763
Q: Will this fuel gauge work with my 12 volt sending unit? 10-180 ohms
- A: These are made for the original sending unit.
Q: How do I tell the voltage of my Jeep, my dad has a 1952 CJ-3A and he bought a new fuel gauge but it crapped out. I need to buy a new one since I am driving the Jeep to school everyday and I want to do it for my dad as a surprise.
- A: I would take a look at the coil, voltage regulator, or battery. They will be stamped.
Q: Does this 12v fuel gauge read accurately with the 640694 fuel sender?
- A: Yes that is correct. They are made together.
Q: I would like to install lighted gauges in my CJ-3A if I go with a new fuel gauge is the resistance 10-180 ohms correct on your new sending units Jeep is 12 volt now?
- A: If you want lighted gauges you need part number: 640284 just like original.
Q: Are there fuel gauges available in a white face that are compatible with your sending units?
- A: Sorry Willys never used white faced gauges on the CJ’s.
Q: I have 47 CJ-2A with original fuel gauge which I think was 6 volt system. The system is 12 volt now will the original gauge work in 12 volt system. I saw in the parts for this model a 12 volt gauge do I need 12 volt gauge?
- A: Yes you will need this gauge if you are 12 volt. Your original 6 volt one in the dash won’t work.
Q: Does it work with the Fuel Tank Sending Unit p/n 914849 (12v)? It is for a CJ-3B…
- A: Yes that is correct. They are compatible.
Q: I ordered and received a new fuel gauge for my CJ-2A from Kaiser. My existing gages have a chrome trim round them, the new one does not. Can I get a new gage that has the chrome so it will match the rest of my gauges?
- A: They never used chrome originally. A black bezel is proper.
Q: Does this work with the sender unit you are offering, A1292-12V? Also, what was the ring color of the original GPWs? (I have a ’42 GPW and the current rings on the “gages” are black and chrome — I assume they were either black or OD)
- A: Yes this will work with that sender. If you have a MB or GPW I would use part number: A8184-12
Q: My fuel gauge was only working part of the time and is now not working at all. When it was working the needle would go back and forth from empty to full. Is there something wrong with my fuel gauge or my fuel sending unit or something else?
- A: It could be either. I would also check your ground as well.
Q: My new fuel gauge reads only 1/2 full when the tank is actually full. The float seems to be functioning properly. Is there an adjustment procedure?
- A: Usually there is a window on the back of the gauge with an adjustment.
Q: What is the three post fuel gauge grounded to? Just a body ground?
- A: It can be. As long as your body is grounded to the frame.
