Kaiser Willys Jeep of the Week: 025

025: Gary Christensen’s 1942 Willys MB

My dad bought our jeep in 1966 for $600 at a used car lot. He wanted something to tow behind his truck & camper to use elk hunting in the back woods of Washington state. Here are a few pictures of our jeep. We also have 2 full cabinets of toy flat fender jeeps from 3/4″ to 12″, metal, plastic, new, old, but mostly green.

My wife and I dated in this jeep and we went on lots of outings in it. My dad passed away in 1976 and my mom gave it to me. We rebuilt it in 2002/2003. We’ve won a few trophies and plaques at local car shows but I still use it in the woods each fall.

Willys Picture Shows: Saints and Soldiers

The Willys “Word”: Ingenuity can save the day

“Rolling. Right. What’s happened… is that the bolt holding the alternator onto the motor disappeared, either sheared off or it fell out and came loose and disappeared along the (Mile Road). We took a piece of rope, oh piece of wood, sorry… We took a piece of wood, made it to fit, drilled the screwdriver into that piece of wood to hold it in place and act as a replacement bolt. We then hand cranked and got the motor running. She’s now charging, which is absolutely brilliant. Major Wallace, as far as I’m concerned, our trip: we have nothing to worry about.” – Video uploaded to YouTube by “DrLeavingsoon”
