Jeep Off-Road Playground in Toledo, Ohio?

Jeep Off-Road Playground in Toledo, Ohio

In Toledo, Ohio, They’re keeping their fingers crossed…

- In case you weren’t aware, next year is the “official” 70th anniversary of the Jeep Wrangler (the first production version being the Willys model MB, produced in Toledo, Ohio in 1941, penned in 1940), and the city has a great idea up it’s sleeve for off-road enthusiasts across the nation – city residents are jumping through hoops to approve a plan to build an off-road course and playground for off-roaders, complete with bogs and obstacle courses!

What’s even better about this rumor is that the park is planned to occupy the vacant 70 acre site of Chrysler’s former Toledo Jeep Assembly Plant on Jeep Parkway in West Toledo.

Hold on to your offroad toolkit though, this “Disneyland for Jeepers” is still in the planning stages. Headway must be made in areas like land procurement, capital for construction and promotion of the landmark and it’s kickoff celebration.

This historic event will not only focus on the Jeep Wrangler of today, but also plans to hold a special place for older model Jeep & Willys…according to Larry P. Vellequette, automotive writer for Blade,”Special efforts could be made to bring World War II-era Jeeps and other historic models in from across the county for the celebration.”

Approved by local auto dealers, supported by volunteers and pitched by Mr. Bruce Baumhower (President) of the United Auto Workers Local 12, this project is sure to gain speed, and will (hopefully) become a reality next year when Jeep plans to unveil it’s 70th anniversary celebration in 2011.
