145: Larry Hammers’ 1962 Willys CJ-5
My 1962 Willys CJ-5 was purchased in 1965 by my dad when I was still in grade school. I “helped” my dad and grandad install the new canvas enclosure before their elk hunting trip to Colorado. Growing up I witnessed our Willys CJ-5 endure a hail storm — resulting in a new canvas enclosure — and buried in a blizzard — with only a portion of the canvas top exposed. Many more elk hunting trips to Colorado over the years and ultimately it was parked in my folks garage for the past twenty five years. The CJ-5 was rescued this past May and with a new gas tank, spark plugs, carb kit and brake rebuild it now leads a pampered life at Lake Texoma. It remains all original and I plan to keep it that way.

Hey I love the look. I have a 62 CJ3B of my own I’m rebuilding, same color with a hard top and PTO. winch. nice job on yours, hope mine turns out half as nice.
Hey Larry,
I have the exact same model/year as your CJ-5. Can you tell me what size tires and rims those are? They look really nice.
Thanks,
Don Bernardo
Beautiful Jeep! I like the look of the early CJ5’s. I still use my CJ3B for Elk and deer hunts here in Arizona.
