013: Michael Grimord’s 1966 Willys CJ-3B Jeep
This 1966 Willys Jeep started it’s life in the Westerly, Rhode Island- Ambulance Corp in 1969. Used for rescues on the beach. My Uncle bought the Jeep back in the early 70’s, to use at his service station in RI, and eventually gave it to his sons to use when they got their licenses.
I first rode in this Jeep when I was around 11 years old, and I told my Uncle that if he ever decided to get rid of it, I wanted to have it. So in 1996, he called ready to let it go, and I traveled from NC to RI to pick it up. I began restoring the Jeep that same year, and it was road worthy by 1997. So I took many rides with my 2 year old daughter until 2001 where it went into storage until I could put more time and effort into keeping it running. In 2009 I finally got the time and energy to get it restored all the way, because of constant encouragement from my 6 year old son who kept asking, “When will I ever get to ride in the Jeep?”
So now it is running and on the road and getting ready for the Spring season ahead for 2010. This Jeep will always remain in my family for years to come…
