The GPW I restored was the first jeep I ever rode in and drove in 1968 – eventually I bought it back in 1989. It went out on a movie job and came back with a valve having gone through #4 piston! I was not a Happy Bunny to say the least, but I repaired it and stuck it into my barn until last year, when on May 31st started restoration work on it as a retirement project. Externally it is standard – but I converted it to 12v – and bought one of your hi-torq starters – changed the carburetor for a Weber ( a common modification to Series 3 Land Rovers in the UK) dry air filter modification, a later M201 transfer box fitted wth one of Herm’s Overdrives and a set of selectro free wheel front hubs in the interest of economy. Gasoline in the UK is £1.50 per litre, or about $9.60 per US Gallon plus an additive for ethanol protection!
