Colin, your hubcaps in my photo!
The actual story on the purchase of our Surrey is that it was listed on eBay by the seller as a 1956 model due to the 56337 model number, which created confusion to potential buyers, as Surreys were not produced until 1959 as Galas for export. Shortly after, the Surrey was introduced even though it was the same vehicle, but was for sale inside the USA.. I tracked the full serial number and other distinctive items on Surreys and determined it was a true Surrey, built near the end of production for 1960 DJ3A Jeeps.. The seller was in negotiations with me and Mr. Meyer at the same time but they were unable to agree on full one time payment. I was able to meet the seller’s requirements and sale price, so the vehicle came to me. It was a sale that was meant to be, given the location of the sale, Peabody, MA.
It had been restored by the Pioneer Jeep Garage in Peabody, MA., in the early 1980s. I was able to speak with the former owner of the Pioneer Jeep Garage while negotiates were ongoing and was sure the Surrey was a true one. The owner of the garage and I were both members of the Willy’s Overland Jeepster Club and he was familiar with me through tech articles I had written for the WOJC.
Dear Sirs
Now I found the Gala surrey again, which belonged to me one day only. I acquired it on ebay last December. But, unfortunately I listened to a comment on the internet, which said that this sould be not a correct one. So I hesitated and withdrew, what I really regret. Now my question: Is this Gala surrey for sale again?
I would appreciate to receive an answer.
Kind regards
