I was talking to a neighbor one day and he said he was wanting to clean out his barn. He said he had a old jeep he would sell me for $300. I thought about it for a couple of days and decided why not. I promised him he would get the first ride once I got it running. But that didn’t happen because he died of cancer a few months later. I decided to restore the jeep to what I thought he would have liked based on our conversations about guns, hunting and military service. I must admit I am not a mechanic and only knew the basics when it came to auto repair. But with the help of Kaiser Willys, Youtube and countless jeep blogs, I have made a running fun driving M38A1 clone out of a old CJ5, that my old neighbor would have loved to have driven. I am still in the process of restoring the old Jeep with original parts I can find on Craigslist or someones backyard junk pile, which is where I found the Kelly Steel Top. I’m afraid that this project has ruined me for all of my other hobbies and that I will always suffer from Jeep fever. I’m sure my old neighbor is looking down on me and smiling about what he has done to me. Thanks Terry!
