The first photo is of the vehicle when my grandfather (Louis Howard) owned it. The Tailgate is the only body panel that I left untouched as it is a nice period piece.
I upgraded the suspension with a 2.5″ arch spring, 2″ shackle above stock. I rebuilt the drive train with new-stock components including 5:38 gears with a dana spicer power lock kit and warn locking hubs. Axles are solid and were fabricated for me in washington, (can’t remember the company). I rebuilt the 3 speed and married it to the rebuilt T-case along with a warn overdrive. Herb the over drive guy supplied the over drive shifter.
I completed all body work on my own. It was sprayed by Distortion Customs in Denver Colorado. There was over 90 hours of panel beating and welding and mudding and fiber glassing… my biggest body job to date (as you can see in the photos). The chassis was sandblasted and sprayed with chassis saver.
The steering components had to be fabricated as it is now a high steer. I did retain the original steering wheel. Turn Key Automotive in Denver colorado fabricated the steering gear bracket.
The wiring harness is a 12v harness produced by EZ Harness.. that was the simplest harness I have ever installed as well as the cheapest and it was actually very well made. I installed it in 3 days. I figured out that a 1978 toyota land cruiser starter works with the origonal 134 hurricane (that was a big relief). Accessories and lights are 12v… I changed the points to an electric ignition that completely kicks ass and I used an msd blaster 2 coil.
I incorporated a ford master cylinder into the mix with a willwood proportion valve as I added bendix front disk and a large ford drum kit to the back. In order to achieve this… I had to fabricate the MC bracket… (Don’t tell Herb the over drive guy… but I stole his idea from his web site… I am sneaky) all brake lines are fabricated by me.
The vinyl on the seats are original to the CJ so are the springs. I used a mothers product to restore them.
