My name is Larry Hogland and I would like to introduce you to (Judy) my 1948 CJ-2A Jeep. I bought her in 1966 for $600.00. She was painted white with red wheels. We, my dad and I painted her a dark green, almost camo color. My dad had a body shop so the restoration projects were fun and easy. We used her primarily for hunting. I live in Phoenix Arizona, where there is lots of deer and elk hunting in the high country. My dad and I were javalina hunting in the desert in the early seventies. We parked Judy in the desert to walk down to the creek. The sun had set and it was just light enough to shoot. We killed our pigs, and by the time we cleaned them it was completely dark. Trying to find a camo jeep in the desert after dark was not fun. So when we did find her I swore to paint her a color that I could find easily, thus the bright orange she now is. I did a frame off restoration on her in the eighties, including the roll cage and swing out spare tire rack and misc. boxes and brackets. Being a Arizona vehicle there was no rust whatsoever, which made it nice.
In the nineties, when I owned a metal fabrication shop, I designed and built a trailer for her so we didn’t have to tow her around all over the state.
During the refurbish I purchased four stock engines, everyone was pulling the stock engines and replacing them with V 6’s. I wanted her stock, I was able to build two complete engines from the four. Being trailered everwhere the only miles she gets is in the woods. As of this date she only has around 1800 miles on the engine with a second back up waiting. In 2006 I installed a bracket for a lap top computer at the dash with topo maps and a GPS we can travel the back roads without worrying about getting back to camp. We have had many years of hunting and camping with her and look forward to many more.
