This jeep came into our family in 1968 when I was 10 from a Forest Ranger friend of ours. It was the first car I learned to drive. The retro 70’s look was me and my toy poodle in 1974 when I was 16 (pic #1 if you couldn’t guess). My Dad had first painted it gold, then later brown. It sat dormant for about 20 years in his backyard until I moved it to my house (2nd pic). This year my Son (he is 17) decided to make our jeep his senior project. We took it down to the frame and did a complete rebuild. 60 years of rust and grime, many frustrations (frozen engine/tranny etc), but the final product is sooo worth it, and the time I got to spend doing this project with my son was priceless. 3rd pic is my son and his dog, the fourth is our resurrected family jeep that I am sure will remain in the family for many more years.
Hi James
I love the story behind your jeep. I have a ’48 that is currently white but I’m going to repaint. I love the color you choose, not quite OD green but not too far off either. Do you mind sharing what paint/color you used?
Thanks, Ron
James,
That is awesome T.L.C. you have done to your Willys. That is what i call
love at your fruits of your labor. GOOD JOB! Take care of it for your
future kids to keep in with family. We have the same model CJ-2A in our
family. Still working on it. Hope it will look as good as your’s.
